I like this analogy because it's a reverse analogy to point out that it's not about how many characters, it's about how many characters plays to the strengths of the type of story being told. But people would be disapointed because creating an army and recruiting many characters was what many enjoy about the first game and the game creators are not playing to the strengths of the franchise. Lots of games are good with 6 characters. Imagine if in Suikoden 2, you only got 6 stars of Destiny.

That wouldn't necessarily mean it's a bad movie on those merits, but how the hell would you expect people to react making a sequel like that? Imagine if the empire strikes back came out - but didn't feature space travel, didn't have Luke, Han Solo, Chewbacca, Leia, Yoda or Darth Vadar in it until the last 3 mins of the movie, and all took place on one planet, instead of being inter-space. Now, imagine Star Wars: Episode 4 back in the 80. Nobody from CT is present until the ending. You can't travel the entire world anymore, but just one small area. You don't have a tight knit group of party members anymore. The entire basis and premise of CT is time travel. You can dimension travel, but you are only limited to 2 dimensions. You can no longer time travel (via gameplay). Here are a few things that people loved in CT, naturally expected to be/see do in a sequel: But it basically half assed it's connection to CT. Now, if they just make CC it's complete own thing like FF, and made it 100% unrelated, I think you wouldn't have quite as much initial negative reception. This isn't to say I don't love CC, which I do once I learned to appreciate it for it's own merits, but the things that were done well in CT are no longer present, so the reception it got was natural to be expected. Well, the game changed the things people like most about the original game. Stranger in Paradise: Final Fantasy OriginĬhrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition
